Ahmed Yousef Al-Hassan, CEO and General Manager of DP World in the GCC, stated on his LinkedIn account on Friday that, with the onset of the unrest in the Gulf region, the initial response to numerous customer inquiries was that the situation was not entirely clear at the time, while emphasizing the company's commitment to finding appropriate solutions to address the evolving circumstances.
He added that over the past few months, DP World has rerouted more than 300,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) through new land routes and expanded its transportation solutions to reach 2,500 truck movements daily, simplifying operations as much as possible to allow customers to focus on their core business while the company manages the operational complexities.
He explained that the company's response was shaped by listening to customers, noting that their most prominent inquiries centered on the availability of alternative routes, the required timeframes, expected costs, and the level of visibility and tracking available for shipments.
He pointed out that coordination between ports, the inland transport sector, customs authorities, and field teams contributed to finding new routes, methods, and tools that helped ensure the continued flow of trade. Al-Hassan stressed that despite the improved outlook, a return to normalcy will take some time, noting that DP World’s focus is on staying close to customers, maintaining flexible operational capacity, and continuing to work to ensure the continuity of trade.
